child benefit

Is your older child continuing in full-time education? Or have they left school and embarked on an apprenticeship?

If so, did you know you are still entitled to claim Child Benefit?

As long as your school leaver is continuing in education for more than 12 hours per week or is training, you are still entitled to Child Benefit. Just remember to update your child’s educational status with HMRC.

You can continue to claim child benefit until your child is 19, as long as they are doing one of the following for the required number of hours:

A levels or similar – e.g. Pre-U, International Baccalaureate

Scottish Highers

NVQs and other vocational qualifications up to level 3

home education – if started before your child turned 16

traineeships in England

Your Child Benefit will automatically stop when your child is 16, so remember to inform HMRC if they are staying in education or undertaking an apprenticeship.
